The calculator hands off to Prospa.

One relationship, disclosed on every page. This page sets out who Prospa is, how the handoff works, and the part most referral pages leave out, which is where Prospa fits a farming business and where something else fits considerably better.

About Prospa

A cash-flow lender, not a rural lender.

Prospa lends against the trading position of a business rather than against land, stock or plant. Applications are online, decisions are commonly faster than a bank process, and amounts under $150,000 typically do not require upfront property security, though a director’s personal guarantee is the usual arrangement.

That has a large consequence on a site whose entire subject is lending secured on rural assets, and it is worth stating at the top rather than in the small print. Farm term debt is secured on land, livestock finance on stock and machinery finance on plant, and all three price well below unsecured lending as a result. Prospa is not competing with any of them, and on this site the honest description of the relationship is that it covers a narrow edge rather than the main need.

Where that edge exists is a small, urgent, non-seasonal need on a farming business with off-farm income or a contracting arm, or a business that would rather not add to a rural facility for something modest. Where it does not is anything secured on land, stock or plant, and anything sized to a season, which is the great majority of what a farm actually borrows for.

The referral flow

Three steps, and nothing travels with the reader.

  1. 01

    The calculator produces a figure

Amount, term and an indicative rate give the weekly and monthly cost. The calculation happens in the browser and the output is indicative rather than a quote.

  2. 02

    The handoff fires

The card swaps to a brief loading state and the browser then moves to Prospa’s tagged application URL. No calculator inputs are passed, because none are collected.

  3. 03

    Prospa assesses and decides

Prospa asks its own questions, runs its own credit assessment, and provides a firm quote with funding where the business is eligible. The decision is entirely Prospa’s.

Commercial disclosure

A referral commission is paid by Prospa.

Farmfinance.org.nz is paid a commission by Prospa when a referred application converts to a funded facility. The commission comes from Prospa rather than from the borrower, and it does not change the rate, fees or terms Prospa offers. We do not claim Prospa is the cheapest or best lender for every applicant, and for a farming business borrowing against rural security it generally is not. Alternatives exist at the banks’ agribusiness divisions, at rural lending specialists, and through stock and station firms. Nothing on this page is personalised financial advice.

FAQ

The Prospa relationship, questions answered

Who is Prospa?

Prospa is a business finance provider operating in the New Zealand market, focused on fast online applications and unsecured small-business lending. Its range covers a smaller unsecured business loan, a larger facility where security may be required, and a revolving line of credit. It is a direct lender rather than a broker, so an application is assessed and decided by Prospa itself.

How does the referral from this site to Prospa work?

The calculator’s "See if you qualify" button replaces the calculator card with a brief loading state and then redirects the browser to Prospa’s tagged application URL. No calculator inputs travel with the redirect and no personal information is collected on this site, so the application begins fresh on Prospa’s own domain under its privacy policy.

Is Prospa the right lender for a farm?

Rarely, and the honest answer on this site is narrower than on any of its siblings. Prospa is an unsecured cash-flow lender that does not lend against land or livestock, which is what most rural finance is secured on. Where it fits is a small, urgent, non-seasonal need on a farm business with off-farm income or a contracting arm. The main funding a farm needs comes from rural lenders, banks and stock firms, and this page says so plainly.

Why is there only one partner?

Because one disclosed relationship is easier for a reader to reason about than several undisclosed ones. Every page on this site names the relationship rather than burying it, and no lender can buy a mention in the guides. A second partner that actually lends against rural security would improve the fit considerably and is a commercial question rather than an editorial one.

What information does Prospa ask for?

A Prospa application typically asks for the business owner’s identification, an active NZBN and recent business bank statements. Larger amounts commonly attract additional requests such as financial statements. Prospa runs its own credit assessment on the business and on any director providing a personal guarantee, and the requirements are set by Prospa rather than by this site.

Does this site earn money when a reader applies through Prospa?

Yes. A referral commission is paid by Prospa when a referred application converts to a funded facility. The commission comes from Prospa rather than from the borrower, and it does not change the rate, fees or terms Prospa offers. Disclosing it is part of the fair-dealing posture this site operates under, which is why it appears on every page rather than only here.

Is there any obligation after clicking through?

None. The handoff opens Prospa’s application and it can be abandoned at any point. Submitting an application is not an offer of credit either. An offer exists only after Prospa’s credit assessment, and it is then accepted or declined by the borrower.

What happens if Prospa declines an application?

A decline from one lender is not a decline from the market. New Zealand rural lending comes from the major banks’ agribusiness divisions, from rural lending specialists, from stock and station firms extending seasonal credit, and from vendor and co-operative arrangements. Different lenders underwrite differently, and a proposition that does not fit one commonly fits another.

Can Prospa be approached directly instead?

Yes. Prospa is a direct lender and an application can begin on its own site without passing through this one. The handoff here carries a partner referral tag used by Prospa for tracking, and it does not change the offer Prospa makes or the assessment it runs.

Disclaimer

Indicative content only. Not personalised financial advice.

Farm debt is serviced out of a production year that does not arrive evenly, and it is commonly secured on the land and the stock the business depends on. Modelling the cost against the season before committing is what this site is built for. Borrowing at a level that stays comfortable through a poor season, rather than only through an average one, is widely regarded as the safer frame.

What this site is

A calculator and information tool. Not a lender, not a broker, not a registered financial adviser. Nothing here is personalised financial advice.

What the figures show

Modelled estimates based on the inputs shown. Not a quote. Not an offer of credit. Not a guarantee of approval, rate or fees.

What the lender decides

Final rates, fees, and approval are set by the lender after a CCCFA-appropriate assessment of the applicant's circumstances and credit decision.

Commercial disclosure

Farmfinance.org.nz earns a commission from Prospa when a visitor applies through this site and their application is approved. The commission is paid by Prospa, not by the borrower, and it does not influence the rate Prospa offers. Full disclosure on the partner page.

Tax, GST, and accountant framing

Tax-treatment statements (GST claim timing, interest deductibility, depreciation rates) are general in nature and subject to the accountant's confirmation on the specific business position. For material amounts, professional advice from a registered financial adviser or chartered accountant is widely regarded as the safer frame.

Important information

About this site, the figures, and your protections.

Last reviewed 8 September 2026.

1. What this site is

Farmfinance.org.nz is a New Zealand education site and a free repayment calculator. It is not a lender, not a broker, and not a registered financial adviser. We do not arrange credit, hold client money, or provide regulated financial advice as defined under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 Part 6 or the Financial Services Legislation Amendment Act 2019. Nothing on this site is personalised financial advice.

2. The calculator and figures

All numbers shown by the calculator, in worked examples, and across the site are indicative only and modelled from the inputs entered. The figures are not a quote, not an offer of credit, and not a guarantee of the rate, fees, term, or approval available to any specific business. Final pricing, fees, and approval are set by the lender after the lender's own credit assessment.

3. General information, not advice

Content on this site is general information (class information). It does not take into account the financial situation, objectives, or needs of any particular business or person. Before making a borrowing decision, professional advice from a licensed Financial Advice Provider, a chartered accountant, or a solicitor is widely regarded as the safer frame, particularly where amounts are material or the borrowing involves a personal guarantee.

4. Commercial relationship with Prospa

When a calculator user clicks "see if you qualify", the application hands off to Prospa, our New Zealand SME finance partner. Farmfinance.org.nz earns a referral commission from Prospa when a referred application converts to a funded loan. The commission is paid by Prospa, not by the borrower, and does not change the rate, fees, or terms Prospa offers the business. We do not claim Prospa is the cheapest or best lender for every applicant. Full disclosure is on our partner page.

5. Tax, GST, and accountant framing

Tax-treatment statements (GST claim timing, interest deductibility, depreciation rates) on this site are general in nature and subject to confirmation by the accountant on the specific business position. For material amounts, professional tax advice from a chartered accountant is widely regarded as the safer frame. Inland Revenue is the primary source for any specific NZ tax-treatment question.

6. Privacy and personal information

Consistent with the Privacy Act 2020, we do not run lead-capture forms on this site. Calculator inputs stay in the browser and are not transmitted to a server we control. We use Google Analytics 4 for aggregate, non-personal traffic data only. When a visitor clicks through to Prospa they leave our site, and Prospa's privacy policy applies. The Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act 2003 (CCCFA) framework applies at the lender level where a sole trader's borrowing is wholly or predominantly for personal use, or where a personal guarantor is involved.

7. Fair dealing posture

This site operates under the fair-dealing requirements of the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 Part 2 and the Fair Trading Act 1986. We avoid misleading or deceptive conduct, false representations, and unsubstantiated claims. Numeric or regulatory claims are hedged or sourced to a primary New Zealand authority such as Inland Revenue, MBIE, the Companies Office, WorkSafe, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, Stats NZ, the Commerce Commission or the Financial Markets Authority.

8. Limitation of liability and governing law

To the maximum extent permitted by New Zealand law, Farmfinance.org.nz, its operators and its contributors are not liable for any loss or damage (direct, indirect, consequential, or otherwise) arising from use of the site or reliance on its content, indicative figures, or third-party information. These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes are to be resolved in New Zealand courts.
